Celebrating our female AGS colleagues on International Women’s Day

Celebrating our female AGS colleagues on International Women’s Day

Today is International Women’s Day and we want to celebrate the work of female colleagues across our three airports.

AGS Airports is a proud supporter of gender equality and is a member of The Woman in Aviation and Aerospace Charter.

The charter was launched in 2018 with companies within the sector making a commitment to work together to build a more fair and balanced industry for woman. More than 200 organisations are signatories to the charter including airports, airlines, aerospace manufacturers and associated trade bodies.

The aim of the charter is to redress the gender imbalance within the wider industry. This year, we will be developing the roadmap to gender equality across our airports in line with our charter commitments.

In November 2020, the Women in Aviation and Aerospace Charter released its “Propelling A Gender Balanced Industry” report analysing the lack of gender balance in the sector.

It found that roughly half of women in the sector feel they have been treated differently due to their gender. The good news is that it identifies several steps that can be taken - at an individual and organisational level - to accelerate progress towards gender balance.

The aviation and aerospace sectors are world-leading, and to sustain this industry we need to ensure that we have access to a diverse range of innovators and leaders.

Derek Provan, chief executive of AGS Airports Ltd, said: “We understand that as an industry there is more to be done to ensure that women are equally represented.

“As a group, we are committed to the charter and in shaping a roadmap to ensuring that we continually strive to improve gender balance within AGS Airports Ltd and the wider industry.

“Gender should never be a barrier to a career in what is a great industry that delivers fantastic opportunities, so if you have a passion to make a difference in this area and are willing to get actively involved, we want to hear from you.”
